Michigan State University’s Department of Recreational Sports and Fitness Services is looking to redesign the once existing IM Circle Pool to include approximately 12,000 SF for mixed recreational space. For several decades the pool has been abandoned and has recently received approval for renovation. The space needs to have a focus on student health and wellbeing, including at minimum two multi-purpose rooms, a secure entry, an emergency exit, and adhere to universal design standards. This space will be utilized for students, faculty, staff, and the rec sports department. IM Circle will encompass two multi-purpose fitness rooms, a juice bar, and variety of fitness areas to obtain the wants and needs expressed from the rec sports department. From the several interviews conducted they indicated the need for more weights, mirrors and work out equipment which will be implemented into the design. In giving the users multiple choices of fitness equipment a unique environment will be achieved. The needs of the employees will be met through the multipurpose rooms and the various storage spaces. By incorporating historical elements the culture of Michigan state university will present in the space.
